Fig Tree Camp

Fig Tree Camp nestles unobtrusively into the landscape on the banks of the Talek River 240 km (149 mi) west of Nairobi.

The camp has 22 cabins and 48 tents, all en-suite, all fitted out to a high standard and all with a private veranda giving views of the river and open plains.

The camp is reached via a long rustic covered bridge across the river at the end of which is a tall observation tower giving wonderful views of the Mara.

This camp is full of character and is set in mature grounds with tall trees and flowering shrubs attracting many bird species. The grounds invite exploration and several trails meander though the trees.

Meals can be enjoyed either in the lovely restaurant or al-fresco on the decking overlooking the river where hippopotami and crocodiles can be seen.

There are two bars and an elevated tree-house coffee deck. The swimming pool is delightfully situated with trees giving welcome shade for those times when the sun becomes too warm for you.

The resident naturalist is on hand for guided walks and also for wildlife and cultural lectures and slideshows.

Local Maasai dancers give regular performances in the evenings while you relax in the spacious lounge as you absorb the enigmatic safari ambience.

After a day of animal spotting and an enjoyable evening meal, you will sleep soundly to a chorus of the African night.

You may occasionally be awoken by the far-reaching rumbling bellow of a hippopotamus as it goes about it’s nocturnal grazing of the banks of the river.
