Samburu Game Lodge

Samburu Game Lodge holds special memories for Bill and Sally, being the initial stop-over on our very first Kenyan safari together, many years ago.

It was a great place back then and numerous enhancements have since made the lodge even better and even more comfortable today. One thing hasn’t changed though; the wonderfully warm and cheerful welcome from the staff, all of whom attend the guests with a special kind of respectful friendliness.

This lovely lodge is located 320 km (199 mi) from Nairobi and set in 4 hectares (10 acres) on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiru River among the lofty trees of virgin riverine forest. The river is frequented by crocodiles, hippopotami and large herds of elephants; all these can be seen easily from within the grounds of the lodge. Birds are abundant, particularly hornbills, weavers and kingfishers.

There are 61 en-suite rooms including 24 which are newly built, 12 cottage style, 8 standard cabins, 2 family units and 7 superior suites. All rooms have private balconies with river views. One of the rooms has been specially adapted for exclusive use by guests with disabilities.

The dining room is open-sided and overlooks the river allowing you to watch the wildlife whilst you enjoy a great range of cuisine.

The Crocodile Bar lets you get surprisingly close to its name-sakes while remaining safe within the security of the premises. Lighting  is arranged to ensure that you can continue watching the wildlife after dark.

Each afternoon, members of the local semi-nomadic Samburu tribe will entertain and enlighten you as they perform their traditional dance and sing their ethnic songs. This is the perfect opportunity to photograph these proud people brightly dressed in their cultural finery.

You may also wish to enjoy the excellent swimming pool or maybe the invigorating jacuzzi.
